The Holidays are a time for giving, and with that in mind, I decided to share some of my ideas with you. I’ve done this with my grandchildren and they loved the gifts. I’ve also done this with adults, and they were inspired to write too.
This year, how about getting back to the basics of writing. If you have an inspiring writer on your list, they might enjoy this. Or, if you have someone you’re just trying to inspire to write, here’s an idea for them too.
My list of basic writing tools for any writer:
- Notebooks: A plain notebook is not just economical, it’s easy to find, and is convenient to use.
- Journals: You can get a simple journal, or you can go all out and get a leather-bound one.
- Pens: Simple pens are fine and some writers prefer something basic. They come in different ink widths, and they come in different colors.
- Calligraphy Pens: If you want to really inspire someone give them a calligraphy pen. Be sure it comes with ink so they can begin using it right away.
- Pencils: Just a plain, old-fashioned pencil is great. They come in different colors and thicknesses, to fit the writers’ preference. Include an eraser and a pencil sharpener.
- Other Pencils: Or you can go with a mechanical pencil, just be sure to add a package of extra lead. These too come in different widths that make the writing darker or lighter.
Think of the person you’re giving the gift to, for inspiration on choosing the right gift. If I was choosing one for an adult (or myself) it would be a “leather-bound journal”. There’s nothing quite like the smell and feel of a leather journal to inspire writing!
Who knows what type of writer these gifts might inspire!
Don’t forget to get yourself a little something to inspire your own writing during the Holidays!
